Barclay Sheaks: An Artist In Life and in Death:

A prominent landscape painter...

A brilliant teacher...

A happy man who loved people and Art...

Barclay Sheaks was a complex individual who preferred the solitude of his empty studio, and whose art style constantly changed as he experimented with conventional and obscure media and techniques.  His national fame initially came as he painted his famous "watcher" series, which paralleled the style of his contemporary, Andy Warhol.

But Sheaks was restless and despite the fame and awaiting fortune, he moved away from this and continued to experiment. His diagnosis of Parkinson's disease in 2007 had a dramatic effect of the direction of his career.  Knowing his days were limited, he pressed on with new ideas, striving to quiet his restless soul. His hand shook so badly he could barely paint a legible signature.

Yet, he continued to paint. His form recaptured the brilliance of his best years.  He wanted to be remembered as a great landscape artist.  And he will be remembered for his last paintings, which reflect the progress of Parkinson's and his ability overcome its effects.
